In the years living in the city and walking around downtown, I’ve never once seen the newstands. It’s possible I’ve missed them if they’re in front of the newspaper’s office for a short time in the day. The office is in a decent location downtown, though that street can be tricky to navigate with the railroad along it. The quality of the articles and photos vary. Unfortunately, there’s a recurring problem of major local news not being reported, board meeting attendance is spotty, elections are presented in a confusing way that ends up discouraging participation, and other community events are mentioned too late to inform readers who would be interested in attending. I don’t know how much of that is because of how the city and county are run and how much is how the newspaper is run. I have learned something new every time I read an issue.
